Every character in FF7 is a skeleton with a separate piece of mesh bolted to each joint — which is why the engine can hang any head on any body. This is that bench, in your browser: swap the parts, repaint the colours they were authored with, stretch the bones, and play the game's own animations. Free, no sign-in, and nothing to install.
Six of the game's named models and everything they are built from, loaded straight from this page. Swap their parts around, repaint them, watch them move. No sign-in, no files, nothing to install.
The full archive is 385 skeletons and 4,180 meshes. The door beside this one opens all of it, from your own copy of the game.
Pick your Final Fantasy VII install folder. The archives are read where they sit, a piece at a time — nothing is uploaded, nothing is copied, and the page works offline once the catalogue is built.
Haven't got the game on this machine? The showcase is what there is. This page does not serve copies of Final Fantasy VII to anybody, verified or not — it edits the copy you already have.
A free Final Fantasy VII character creator that runs in a browser tab. The models are the real ones — the field characters the 1997 PC game draws when you walk around a town — and they are made of interchangeable pieces, because the engine builds every one of them as a 21-bone skeleton with a separate mesh attached to each joint. Take Tifa's arms, Barret's frame and a head from an NPC nobody remembers, recolour the lot, and it will still animate, because the animations belong to the skeleton rather than to the mesh.
Nothing is uploaded. If you point it at your own copy of the game, the archives are read where they sit and stay there. If you have not got the game to hand, the showcase above is a handful of models served from this page, and it needs nothing from you at all.
This bench is one tool out of fifteen in the OpenMidgar Workshop — the same idea applied to monsters, materia, items, shops, dialogue, field maps, field scripts and the world map, with the whole lot exported as a single .iro for 7th Heaven. It is free, it is in early access, and the waitlist is a queue rather than a competition.
